SLIFT

PSYCH ROCK, SPACE ROCK, KRAUTROCK, PSYCH METAL

Formed in Toulouse by brothers Jean and Rémi Fossat together with their high-school friend Canek Flores, SLIFT have spent the past decade stretching rock music into something colossal, volatile, and fiercely their own. From the gravitational pull of their early stoner-leaning beginnings to the ignition point of their widely praised KEXP session, the trio have evolved with a momentum that mirrors the intensity of their sound. Their latest release ILION (2024, Sub Pop) finds them operating at panoramic scale – a vast collision of psych, metal, and post-rock that feels less like an album and more like a constructed realm of pressure, velocity and myth.

What distinguishes SLIFT is the way their vision fuses cosmic narrative, emotional extremity and a streak of playful unpredictability. ILION’s Homeric framing – a journey through collapse and renewal across space-time – sits alongside their fascination with the physical force of sound: towering low-end, surging tempos and riffs that expand into something almost architectural. And threaded through their evolution is a delight in unexpected details, from rapid-fire experimentation to the unlikely presence of bongos on La Planète Inexplorée. It is this combination of conceptual scope, ferocity and curiosity that gives SLIFT their singular character – a trio creating music on a scale that defies expectation.

WHAT TO EXPECT
On stage, SLIFT are unlike anything else. Their performances feel elemental: guitars erupt in bright, spiralling waves; bass lands with seismic weight; drums propel everything forward with a momentum that seems to redraw the room. SLIFT are repeatedly singled out as something rare; an experience that bends time and space, where intensity becomes immersion and immersion becomes transcendence. It is a singular encounter: overwhelming, luminous, unforgettable, and never one to miss.
