ANTROPOCENO

Antropoceno is the solo project of São Paulo-based artist Lua Viana, working at the intersection of experimental heavy music and Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous cosmologies. Since the 2025 debut Natureza Morta, Viana has built the project around a trilogy inspired by Indigenous thinker Ailton Krenak's concept of an "ancestral future," rejecting linear, colonial ideas of progress in favour of a worldview where humanity is inseparable from the Earth. No Ritmo da Terra (Longinus Recordings, 2026) marks the continuation of that trilogy, expanding the ideas first laid out on Natureza Morta into a denser, more expansive second chapter.

For Viana, this isn't costume or texture. Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous traditions function inside the music as living systems of knowledge, built into the structure of the songs rather than placed on top of them. Field recordings from the Amazon rainforest, ritual percussion, and chanted vocals in Portuguese, Tupi, and Yoruba carry as much weight as the guitars and drums around them. Beneath all of it sits a clear political current, not stated outright but built into the music's own logic, a reach toward the worldviews of communities that have resisted, and stood apart from, the modern nation-state.

WHAT TO EXPECT
‍An Antropoceno set moves like a ritual rather than a setlist. Chants build into hypnotic waves before breaking into distortion and blast beats, percussion and birdsong bleed into guitar noise, and intensity rises less through obvious peaks than through sheer accumulation. It is a set built for surrender rather than spectacle, one that asks the room to fall into its rhythm rather than watch it from the outside.
